NEW PROVINCIAL TEAM MODEL FOR 2023: Program Overview
- All tryouts for the 15U & 17U programs will be held in May of 2023. A pre-tryout identification camp will be hosted in Brandon in mid-April as well.
- Up to 15 players per age group will be selected for training in June.
- The program will host the Saskatchewan teams in Brandon, MB, in early July.
- A 10-person roster and 2-person coaching staff to represent Manitoba at the National Championships will be confirmed after the Brandon series.
- There will be very light local training for most of July.
- The teams will then return to a pre-National Championship training camp starting July 24 before departing for their respective National Championships, which will run from July 31 to August 5, 2023, in Calgary, Alberta (female) and Sherbrooke, Quebec (female).
- The new program model will see the program participation fee reduced by 2/3 from $1500 to $500 per player.
- The change to the program of limited competition before the National Championships comes as added financial challenges on Basketball Manitoba to fund the program as it has in the past and seeing other growing summer programs pulling this level of athlete to additional opportunities.
- Additional details on the program will be announced later this winter.
