MAR DEL PLATA, Argentina (February 23, 2023) – Canada Basketball announced Thursday the Senior Men's National Team roster for the upcoming sixth and final window of the FIBA Men's Basketball World Cup 2023 Qualifiers. The training camp includes Manitoba's Chad Posthumus, who was invited to the training camp last week.
Canada will face Argentina on Thursday, February 23 (6:40 p.m. CT) at the Polideportivo Islas Malvinas in Mar del Plata, Argentina, before travelling to Caracas to close out the Qualifiers against Venezuela on Sunday, February 26 (6:10 p.m. CT) at the Poliedro de Caracas. Both games will be broadcast live on Sportsnet.
With an undefeated record of 10-0, and one of only two teams in the world without a loss in the Qualifiers, Canada has already punched their ticket for this summer’s FIBA Men’s Basketball World Cup 2023. Canada (10-0) sits atop Group E followed by Venezuela (7-3), Dominican Republic (7-3), Argentina (7-3), Bahamas (3-7), and Panama (2-8).
Eighty national teams will play games across six qualifying windows to secure their place among the 30 teams who will join hosts Japan and the Philippines in the 32-team edition of FIBA's flagship event.
In the Americas region, 16 teams will face off over two rounds with the three best teams from each group, and the fourth-placed team qualifying for the FIBA Men's Basketball 2023 World Cup. For additional information on the format of the FIBA Men's Basketball World Cup 2023 Qualifiers, click here.
The FIBA Men's Basketball World Cup 2023, set to take place from August 25 to September 10, 2023, will see the Group Phase take place in the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia. The Final Phase will follow in the Philippines' capital city of Manila.
Canada is currently ranked 15th in the FIBA World Ranking presented by Nike.
