Crossover Basketball Club has announced the start of Crossover Elementary Basketball Skills Academy. This spring training program is targeted to Boys and Girls 7-10 years of age (born in 2012-2015) who are interested in learning more about the game and ready to grow their appreciation for all the game of basketball has to offer! Experience in basketball is a bonus but not mandatory - all levels are welcome.
The focus for these sessions will be hard skills such as dribbling and passing and fundamental footwork required for basketball. Physical Literacy and soft skills such as balance, running, jumping, skipping, and catching as it relates to basketball will also be the focus. The program will also lay the groundwork for understanding the rules of basketball as a sport and work actively to help them learn all the different terminologies of the game. The coaches will reinforce these fundamental skills with individual and partner and group drills, with the end result being to build them up to play in teams. The ultimate goal is to build players up to fall in love, not just with physical activity but with basketball as well. The program will strive to empower kids, help them achieve their highest potential, and be good ambassadors for their community, schools, and families.
The club offers quality coaching, a positive learning environment and an opportunity to extend their social circle and begin building their basketball family. The camp is certified and insured through Basketball Manitoba and supported by the many volunteers that help keep the program elite. Crossover Basketball was established in 2015. Its mission is to make basketball accessible, affordable and fun for the kids they train.
The Skills Academy will run for 10 weeks on Wednesday evenings from April 5 to June 7, 2023. Sessions will occur at Lansdowne School (715 Wiginton) from 6:30pm-9:30pm, divided into two separate 90-minute runs. Session 1 will go from 6:30-8:00pm. Session 2 will go from 8:00-9:30pm. Parents can sign their kid(s) up for either session on a first-come, first-served basis. They will be taking a maximum of 12 kids per session. The cost for each of the Skills Academies is $200 per athlete.
