WINNIPEG – The Winnipeg Sea Bears of the Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) announced Tuesday that the team's final regular-season home game has sold out five days ahead of the event. The news comes after the team already added additional seating on July 19 to accommodate high fan demand.
This will mark the fourth consecutive sell out for the Sea Bears, who will wrap their inaugural regular season on July 29 before advancing to a home playoff game on either August 4 or 6. The franchise is set to break their own CEBL single-game attendance record of 7,328 fans set by their season opener on May 27.
"Once again, Winnipeg shows all of Canada that we are the best sports fans in the world! We are truly grateful for all the support. Now, let's bring the heat on Saturday night to launch our Sea Bears into the playoffs!" said David Asper, Sea Bears owner and chairman.
The team already owns the five most-attended games in CEBL history, a testament to the incredible support of a Winnipeg fan base that has earned the name "Sea Bears Nation."
The team encourages fans to pack the house for the team's first-ever playoff game in their first season by keeping an eye out for presale and general public on sale later this week.
The Winnipeg Sea Bears secured a home playoff game on Friday evening when the Vancouver Bandits defeated the Edmonton Stingers, assuring Winnipeg a top-two finish in the West. Winnipeg currently holds the conference's top record at 12-7.
With one game remaining, the Sea Bears would clinch first with a victory Saturday, or a Calgary Surge loss either Wednesday or Friday.
If Winnipeg finishes with the best record in the Western Conference, they will host a playoff game on Sunday, August 6 at 8 p.m against the winner of the conference's play-in game. The winner of that matchup would advance to the Championship Weekend semifinals against the host Vancouver Bandits. A second-place regular-season finish would place the Sea Bears as host of the play-in game on Friday, August 4 at 8 p.m. As the host team, the Bandits receive an automatic bye to the Championship Weekend semifinals.
The organization is excited to host what will be a historic playoff game in front of Sea Bears Nation.
