‍TORONTO (May 30, 2024) – Twenty-one of Canada’s top age-group players were selected to attend U18 Men’s National Team training camp ahead of the FIBA U18 Men’s AmeriCup 2024.  The list includes Manitoba's Ramogi Nyagudi.  

The training camp was held at Humber College’s North Campus Gymnasium from May 22-31.


The FIBA U18 Men’s AmeriCup 2024 will run June 3-9, 2024, at the Obras Sanitarias Stadium, also known as the "Temple of Rock", in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The field will comprise the top eight teams from across the Americas zone.   All the action will be streaming live on FIBA’s YouTube channel.

The final 12-player roster will be announced on Sunday, June 2 following the technical meeting.

Due to personal reasons or injury, several athletes invited to attend training camp were unable to participate. 

Since 2008, Canada has never finished worse than third at the tournament, and has captured silver in three out of their last four appearances in the event. Canada won bronze in 2022, with an 81-57 victory over Argentina in the third-place game.

Ramón Díaz will make his Canadian national team coaching debut at the FIBA U18 Men’s AmeriCup 2024 and be joined by Nathan Grant, Charles Hantoumakos, and Kyle Landry.

Following the FIBA U18 Men’s AmeriCup 2024 draw, Canada was drawn into Group A and will compete against the Dominican Republic (June 3, 2:10 p.m. ET), Puerto Rico (June 4, 11:40 a.m. ET) and Venezuela (June 5, 11:40 a.m. ET)  in Group Phase action.  All eight teams participating in the event will advance to the quarter-finals, followed by the semifinals and and medal round games to follow.

The top four teams in the event will successfully qualify for next summer’s FIBA U19 Men’s Basketball World Cup 2025.

Players selected to attend training camp were invited to a Canada Basketball Men’s High Performance National Team Age-Group Assessment Camp.

Canada is currently ranked 9th overall in the FIBA World Ranking presented by Nike, following the conclusion of the FIBA 2023 Youth Events.
