Basketball Manitoba is pleased to announce the High-Performance Camp from Monday, August 19 to Thursday, August 29, 2024, for boys and girls ages 12 to 17!

The summer camp will offer an ELITE CAMP session for athletes 14-17 who have extensive playing experience and are looking for a challenging basketball camp.  The ELITE CAMP session will consist of advanced concepts, drill work, and competition suitable for players who can compete at a high level.  This camp is designed for players who play at the Provincial Team level or have been top performers in the club and school systems.  All athletes will be selected through an application approval process.  

Head coaches Eric Sung and Megan Noonan, along with guest coaches, will lead the girls' camps from August 19 to 22.  The boys' camp sessions will be led by head coach Stephen Tackie and guest coaches from August 26 to 29.  

The cost of the camp is $140.00 per player which includes the camp, insurance and a Basketball Manitoba t-shirt.  

The registration deadline is FRIDAY, AUGUST 16, 2024, at 12:00 pm or when the camp sells out.  The camps have sold out over the last 5 years, so register now to avoid disappointment.

GIRLS BASKETBALL CAMP

DATES & TIMES: Monday, August 21 to Thursday, August 24, 2023
  • Session 1 - Age 12 - 13 Girls - Aug 19 to 22 -  9:15am to 11:00am
  • Session 2 - Age 14 - 16 Girls - Aug 19 to 22 - 11:15am to 1:00pm
  • Session 3 - Age 14 - 17 ELITE Girls - Aug 19 to 22 - 1:15pm to 3:00pm 
    • Please note that acceptance into the ELITE Camp session will be determined by Basketball Manitoba based on the athlete’s playing experience and level.  Those not accepted will have the opportunity to move into Session 2 or have their camp fees refunded.  
CAMP COST
  • $140.00 per person (includes GST)
  • PAYMENT: Camp fees will only be collected online via credit card or eTransfer. 
BRING A BASKETBALL: Players must bring their own basketball for use for the duration of the camp.

BOYS BASKETBALL CAMP

LEAD COACH BIOS: 



Eric Sung is currently the head coach of the Varsity Girls' team at Dakota Collegiate and has been since 2015. Coach Sung and the Lancers recently claimed the AAAA Provincial Championship in the 2021-2022 season. He is also the head coach of the Evolve Basketball 18U Girls team, where they have been travelling across the country, competing against the top programs in Canada. He also has Usport coaching experience as an assistant coach with the University of Manitoba Bison Women's program. 
 
Sung has been highly involved with basketball development in Manitoba for the past ten years. In 2022, Sung was the head coach of the 17U Girls Manitoba Provincial Team. He was also the head coach of the 15U Girls Provincial Team (2021), the head coach of the Boys 15U Provincial Team (2014-2015), and the boys Centre of Performance coach (2013 – 2019). 

Sung has additional coaching experience with the Varsity Boys at Oak Park High School (2012-2015), Junior Varsity Boys at Maples Collegiate (2013), the Manitoba Summer Games team (2013 *Gold Medal), 18U Boys Chinese Universal Storm (2011-2013) and Junior Bison Girls Basketball Program (2008-2010).

Sung graduated from Steinbach Regional Secondary School and played post-secondary basketball at Providence University College. He graduated with a Bachelor of Physical Education and Education degree from the University of Manitoba and is currently a high school Physical Education and Human Ecology teacher at Dakota Collegiate.

MEGAN NOONAN


Megan Noonan has been involved in the basketball community in Manitoba for many years. Her playing career consisted of four summers on the Manitoba Provincial Team and a successful five years as a member of the University of Winnipeg Wesmen Basketball Program. She was a three-year co-captain recognized as a Canada West All-star for two of those years. 

Megan graduated from the University of Winnipeg with a Bachelor of Science in Biopsychology. She also just finished her Bachelor of Education at the University of Manitoba and is currently working as a substitute teacher. 

From 2017 to 2020, Megan was coaching at her former high school, Fort Richmond Collegiate, where she led the varsity girls team to a divisional championship in 2020. That year she was also named MSHAA Coach of the Year.  

In addition to coaching at the high school level, Megan has been a part of the coaching staff for the U17 Female Provincial team for the past four years. In 2018, she head coached the team to a fifth-place finish at nationals. This year she is helping coach the Rural Targeted Athlete Program South (TAP) and the varsity girls team at Dakota Collegiate.

She is the current Director of Operations with the Winnipeg Sea Bears basketball team of the Canadian Elite Basketball League.

Stephen Tackie has been involved with the Manitoba Provincial Team program both as a head and an assistant coach at a variety of levels since 1998.  Stephen led Team Manitoba’s 17U boy's program to two consecutive Silver Medal performances at the Canadian National Championships in 2012 and the 2013 Canada Games held in Sherbrooke, Quebec.

Currently, he is the head coach of the Varsity Boys program at Sturgeon Heights Collegiate, where he has also worked as an educator since 2002.  Tackie has led Sturgeon Heights to the AAAA Final Four Provincial Championship 5 times (JV and Varsity), including a Junior Varsity boy's provincial Championship in 2009.  In 2008 and 2009, Tackie was voted back-to-back Junior Varsity boy's coach of the year, and in 2010 was a finalist for the Sports Manitoba Coach of the year award.

Stephen is currently a coach in the Canada Basketball/Manitoba Region Boys Jr. Academy.  In 2005, he began working as an assistant with the Wesmen Men's basketball program. He has coached in Manitoba's male Centre for Performance Program for four years and is an Instructor for Canada basketball's NCCP Course Intro to Competition Advanced coaches certification course.

Steve is very active in the summer basketball camp circuit with involvement with the Wesmen Camps, Peace Gardens, Athletes in Action, Rocky Mountain in Alberta and the Boston Celtics summer camp in Boston, Mass. Coach Tackie has been part of the Point Guard College (PGC) organization, instructing at camps in Atlanta, Texas and UCLA.

A proud Manitoban, Tackie is humbled and very excited to work with the up-and-coming leaders in basketball and the community here in Manitoba.
