Mini Ballers Basketball Assistant Coach (part-time, Winnipeg & Selkirk)

Starting at $15.30/hour

The successful candidate can perform duties as a Mini Ballers Assistant Coach and will be responsible for assisting in delivering our weekly classes.

The ideal candidate:

Like the kids we teach, Mini Ballers is constantly growing! Our ideal candidates are individuals who not only meet the criteria outlined but are a good fit for our long-term vision.

Those who are interested in teaching and/or coaching as a profession would be an amazing fit for this job, as the work experience will directly and immediately sharpen your coaching, teaching, and classroom management skills. Therefore, teaching physical education, early childhood education, and other organized recreational programming is a valuable asset. We are looking for people who are passionate about teaching and love to build rapport and connect with students and families.

Duties/Expectations:

Availability to work a minimum of 1-2 days weekly: The candidate must be available to work during a block of consecutive class times, as well as make time for paid training and session planning.

Pre-Program and Post-Program: Review the practice plan ahead of time and lead in the setup and tear down of the classes, while maintaining the ability to greet and say goodbye to participants and their parents. Coaches are paid to be there for pre and post-program tasks; adequate time is built in before and after, so you are never rushed.

Builds Rapport: All successful Mini Ballers coaches view it as their privilege to get to know the little ones in their classes. This means they make it a top priority to learn their names as quickly as possible and have the desire and the ability to connect with the students and their families.

Interest in Early Childhood Development: Mini Ballers currently offers programming for children ages 1-8 years old. Successful candidates must be genuinely interested in the development and well-being of young children. As well as be excited and open to differentiating instruction for children with developmental delays and/or disabilities. The large majority of Mini Ballers programming is designed for preschool-age children aged 1-5.

Performative Coaching: The ideal candidate is professional, without being stiff. They can captivate children's attention. They are ready to be on display and use their voice, facial expressions, and body gestures to deliver quick instruction, imaginative play scenarios, explanations, and demonstrations. The successful candidate should have experience following formal practice and/or lesson plans which include written instructions and drawings.

Multi-tasker: The successful candidate can be described as a personable leader who can provide calm and clear directions in a busy space and can improvise and adlib. They should be comfortable following directions from the lead coach while also displaying their own autonomy and discretion when working with small groups, e.g., at stations.

Social Media Savvy: The successful candidate is comfortable with being featured in social media content and able to use their own working cell phone with available storage to record short videos and take pictures for use on Mini Ballers social media platforms. The images/videos can be immediately exported post-session; there is no obligation to archive pictures/videos. At Mini Ballers, we work as a team to produce content for our social media platforms. All social media obligations are to be completed in the paid time pre or post-program.
