Congratulations to the Manitoba athletes and coaches selected for the inaugural National Indigenous Basketball Camp, organized by Canada Basketball in collaboration with the Aboriginal Sport Circle. Set to take place from September 26-30, 2024, at the Seven Chiefs Sportsplex on Tsuut'ina First Nation (outside of Calgary, AB), this event brings together top Indigenous youth athletes and coaches from across Canada for a one-of-a-kind basketball and leadership development experience. Over three days, participants will receive elite training from Canada Basketball’s high-performance and national team coaches, alongside nominated coaches from Provincial/Territorial Aboriginal Sport Bodies, including the Manitoba Aboriginal Sports and Recreation Council.
In addition to on-court training, the camp offers off-court leadership workshops and cultural activities designed to deepen the participants’ connection to their Indigenous heritage. This holistic approach ensures that the athletes not only develop their basketball skills but also return to their communities as confident leaders and advocates for the growth of the game. The involvement of cultural ambassadors like Michael Linklater, a respected Canada Basketball alumnus, further enriches the experience by sharing valuable life lessons and inspiring the next generation of Indigenous athletes.
The Manitoba athletes and coaches chosen for this incredible opportunity are: Brooke Blacksmith, Cali Buller, Dylan Duhamel, and Jayden Thompson will represent Manitoba as athletes, while Preslee Munroe and Jack Jamieson will serve as coaches.
We wish the Manitoba players and coaches all the best as you develop both on the court and as leaders for your communities!
